Does your Chieftain
have broken ribs?
Look at Wing Station 39.5.
Problem:
If you gear retraction actuator has been or is now improperly
rigged, it will cause the hydraulic fittings on your dual
brake calipers to beat the Wing Rib at station 39.5 into little
pieces. Even when properly rigged to the Piper spec., the
fitting clearance is minimal and damage can still occur if
your retraction bumpers are worn out. This damage appears
to be common to all dual caliper equipped PA-31-350/T1020's
we'be inspected.
Solution
#1:
Piper fix - requires the removal and replacement of both
39.5 Ribs at a cost of approximately $750 for parts and
20+ man-hours to reomove, replace, replumb and rerig. Not
a real attractive solution.

Solution
#2:
BLR "Quick Fix" - requries installation of
our stainless steel Rib bridge, which allows the main
gear to complete the retraction cycle by providing adequate
clearance for the hydraulic |
| fittings,
while maintaining wing station loads at a cost of $695
(Super Chief II owners $395) for parts and 4 man-hours,
no plumbing or rigging required. It's your time and
money, you decide! |
STC #SA00378SE
Approves this installation on all PA-31-350/T1020's and
was issued to us as a result of the Research and Development
work we conducted during the certification of our popular
Super Chief II Landing Weight Increase Main Gear modification.
